Resetting Your Password
Forgot your password or need to change it? There are three ways to reset your Microsoft 365 password at Premier Franchise Management. Which one applies to you depends on your role and whether you can still sign in.
|
🧠 Quick summary: Franchise owners can reset passwords for their staff. All users can reset their own password self-service. If you're fully locked out with no access, a coworker must request a reset on your behalf. |

Method 1: Franchise Owners - Reset a Staff Password via My Staff
Franchise owners and managers have access to the My Staff portal, which allows you to reset passwords for users in your location without contacting IT.
Steps
- Open a browser and go to mystaff.microsoft.com.
- Sign in with your franchise owner / manager credentials.
- You will see a list of users at your location. Find the user whose password needs to be reset.
- Click on their name, then click Reset password.
- Choose whether to auto-generate a password or set a temporary one manually.
- Share the temporary password with the user securely, do not send it in an unencrypted email. The user will be prompted to set a new password on their next sign-in.
|
⚠️ Important: Do not share temporary passwords over public channels. The user should change their password immediately after receiving it. |
Method 2: All Users - Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
If you have forgotten your password or it has expired, you can reset it yourself at any time using Microsoft's Self-Service Password Reset portal - no IT involvement needed.
Before you can use SSPR
SSPR requires that you have at least two authentication methods registered on your account. These could be any combination of:
- Microsoft Authenticator app (push notification or code)
- A phone number (text message or call)
- A backup email address
|
⚠️ If you only have one authentication method registered, SSPR will not work. Set up a second method now while you still have access! Go to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo and add a backup. Don't wait until you're locked out. |
Steps to reset your password via SSPR
- On the Microsoft sign-in screen, click Forgot my password. Or open a browser and go directly to aka.ms/sspr.
- Enter your work email address and complete the CAPTCHA.
- Choose your verification method - Authenticator app notification, text message code, or backup email.
- Complete the verification (approve the notification or enter the code sent to you).
- Enter your new password twice. It must meet the password requirements below.
- Click Finish. You can now sign in with your new password.

💡 Password tip: A passphrase is easier to remember and harder to crack than a complex short password. Try something like "Coffee$Mug!2026" long, memorable, and meets all requirements. |
Method 3: Fully Locked Out - Have a Coworker Submit a Ticket
If you cannot sign in at all and SSPR is not working (for example, you only have one authentication method registered, or your phone is lost), you will need IT Help Desk assistance.
Because you are locked out of your account, you cannot submit the ticket yourself. Here is what to do:
What your coworker needs to do
- Go to the IT Help Desk portal and submit a ticket on your behalf.
- Include the following information in the ticket:
- Your full name
- Your work email address (username)
- A brief description: "User is locked out and unable to reset password via SSPR"
- A phone number or alternate contact where IT can reach you directly
- IT will verify your identity before resetting the password and will contact you directly with next steps.
|
🔒 Security note: IT will never send your new password over email or Teams chat. You will be asked to verify your identity before any reset is performed. If anyone contacts you claiming to be IT and asks for your current password, do not provide it — report it immediately. |
Prevent This From Happening Again
The best time to set up backup authentication methods is before you need them. Take 2 minutes now to make sure you have at least two methods registered:
- Sign in and go to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo.
- Check that you have at least two methods listed (e.g. Authenticator app + phone number).
- If you only have one, click Add sign-in method and add a second one.
|
✅ You're protected when you have: Microsoft Authenticator app AND a backup phone number or email. Two methods means you can always get in, even if you lose your phone. |
|
🛟 Still stuck? Contact the IT Help Desk. A coworker can submit a ticket on your behalf if you cannot access your account. |
